Total Joint Replacement
Total joint replacement, also known as arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure in which a damaged or arthritic joint is removed and replaced with a prosthetic implant. This procedure is commonly performed on joints such as the knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow, but it can also be done on other joints. The goal of total joint replacement is to relieve pain, restore function, and improve the quality of life for patients suffering from severe joint damage due to arthritis, injury, or other conditions.
During the procedure, the surgeon removes the damaged portions of the joint and replaces them with metal, plastic, or ceramic components that are designed to mimic the natural movement of a healthy joint. The type of prosthesis used and the surgical technique may vary depending on the specific joint being replaced and the patient’s individual needs.
